Obituary of Roy A. Crocker
Roy Andrew Crocker, age 95, of Lockport NY, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025. Beloved by his children, Capt. Dennis Crocker (Joann), LtCol Mark Crocker (Amy), and American Airlines Purser Renee Rote (Steve). Roy has six grandchildren Paul Crocker (Joyce), Andrew Crocker, Roseann Crocker, Lena Wall (Anthony), Mark D. Crocker, and Sean Rote. In addition, Roy has nine great-grandchildren. Roy was the son of Walter Crocker and Violet Angus. Roy originally came from Canada and became a U.S. citizen by serving honorably in the United States Air Force as a clerk typist. It was there that he met and married Rosalie Chaires, settled down and started a family. After discharge he worked in sales until becoming a top salesman in Allstate Insurance Company, where after a long career, retired.
Roy had many varied hobbies and interests. He became an accomplished bridge player, winning the top spot in his club consistently month after month. Roy had a special talent for making friends, not only at the bridge club, but everywhere he traveled. His love of flying took him on adventures to gambling casinos across the U.S. and Europe where he displayed his skills at poker, blackjack, and craps. He even earned his private pilot's license along the way. It was no surprise that his love of flying lead directly to all three of his children choosing aviation careers.
Roy had a passion for physical fitness and health that motivated him to take long walks regardless of the weather or busy schedules. Several times in his life he battled successfully against cancer and won. He attributed his longevity to zest for life, loving family, and a glass of wine every day.
Roy especially enjoyed playing bridge and winning with his son, Dennis, solving bridge puzzles together, and recounting favorite lines from great movies, such as "Princess Bride" and "Montey Python's Holy Grail." But in his later years, his most popular pastime was watching old rerun episodes of classic "Gunsmoke" with his son, Mark, while discussing the latest politics. In his last phone conversation, Roy remarked that the two of them had finally reached the end of the series, having seen every single episode. Roy also loved talking with his daughter, Renee, on the phone about her latest flight or adventure somewhere in the world. Between him and his three children, there was never a dull moment in Roy's life, nor his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dad will be sorely missed.
A private celebration of Roy’s life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to one of Roy’s favorite charities, Easterseals, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Tunnel to Towers.
