Obituary of Joan F. Bertino

Joan F. Bertino passed away June 30, 2022 under the care of Niagara Hospice.  Born June 17, 1942 in Lockport she was the daughter of Harold and Frances (Bugenhagen) Conlin.  Joan earned her Bachelors of Science in Education from SUNY Geneseo.  She started working for Pittsford Central School District in 1964 and retired from the Lockport City School District in 2000.  Joan was a member of St. John the Baptist RC Church, sorority Alpha Kappa Phi, and the Lockport Women’s College Club.  She enjoyed gardening, attending arts and crafts shows, going to the theater, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Joan was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Bertino who passed away November 7, 2005.

Joan is survived by her children Joseph (Conny) Bertino, Stephen Bertino, and Julie (Jeffrey) Hopcia; grandchildren Lucy and Isabelle Bertino, Marnie, Chloe, and Michael Hopcia; siblings Anne (Dr. William) Smith and the late H. Douglas Conlin; also survived by her sisters-in-law Linda E. Conlin, Cecelia Boudreau, Joyce Bevins, Mary Ferguson-King, Sally Bertino and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, July 5th from 4-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 6th at 12 Noon in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport.  Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.  Visit pruddenandkandt.com.
