Phillip Barrancotta passed away peacefully May 8, 2017 in Briody Health Care Facility surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lockport November 29, 1933, he was the son of Charles and Ida (Annalora) Barrancotta. Phil graduated from Lockport High School and served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 in Japan. While there he was responsible for keeping the troops informed of current events and other news. He worked for the Union Sun & Journal for 43 years retiring as the Circulation Manager in 1998. Phil was a member of the New York State Circulation Manager Association (NYSCMA) and was a frequent presenter at many of their conventions. During his career, he received numerous awards including the J. Truman Kahler distinguished service award from the NYSCMA in 1994. He was active in the Lockport community as a member of the Rotary Club and in 2005 received the Paul Harris Award. He also served with Meals On Wheels, was Vice President of the minor league division of the Lockport Little League, and even led a benefit softball game for the DARE program. Phil was a lifelong member of the YMCA. Phil is survived by his wife Dorothy; children David (JaneE) Barrancotta and Lori (Stephen) Crowell; grandchildren Daniel and Sarah Barrancotta; Brett and Kyle Crowell; also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Salvatore, Ignatius, Thomas, Ignazio "Nashe", Vincent, and Donald, and sisters Virginia Hughes and Anita Hanson. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, May 11th from 3-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12th at 10 AM in Christ Community Church, 140 Genesee St., Lockport. Interment in Cold Springs Cemetery. Donations in Phil's honor may be made to Christ Community Church or a charity of your choice.
