Ronald C. Main of Sanborn, NY, 75 passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in Englewood, FL. Born in Lockport on Nov.18, 1941, he was the son of the late Charles and Olive (Spearin) Main. Graduated 1959 from Lockport High School as class president. Undergraduate from Syracuse University 1963, Cum Laude graduate of SUNY Buffalo, he participated in the honors program in the history department. Graduate studies were taken from SUNY Buffalo, Colgate University (Masters) and Niagara University. He taught History and Social Studies at Lockport High School for 33 years. In 1991, he originated and taught the advanced placement course in American History and made it into a centerpiece of the instructional program. He received the Brotherhood Award of the Niagara County Chapter of Christians and Jews, Service to Youth Award from the Lockport Youth Board and the Outstanding Teacher of American History Award from Niagara Falls National Society Daughters of the American Revolution among many other awards. He was director of the YMCA Camp Kenan from 1968 to 1983. He coached the Cross Country team (boys & girls) 1972-1995, Assistant Track Coach (boys & girls) 1980-2001 and Assistant Indoor Track Coach (boys & girls) 1985-present. His teams won many Niagara Frontier League Championships. He was dedicated to his team members driving them to meets, feeding them and giving them the best advice and encouragement possible. Mentor for thousands of boys and girls in the classroom and athletic field, he had received coach of the year award. He was inducted into the Lockport Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. Traveled to Europe and enjoyed summer vacationing in Maine and wintering in Florida. He was a member of Lockport Alliance Church. Ron is survived by sister, Elaine (Gary) Allen,San Diego, CA, brother, Gerald Main, Greencastle, IN; uncle to Michelle, Elisa, Scott, Amy and Gregg, aunts Mildred Fulks, VA, Genevieve Spearin, Niagara Falls, NY and many cousins. Visitation will begin Friday, April 7th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, where funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8th at 10 am. Interment will be in Corwin Cemetery. Memorial Donations to the Lockport Alliance Church, 555 Davison Rd. or to the Ronald C.
