The warm and friendly face of Joe's Locust Market, Mary Catherine Caridi, passed away on Tuesday February 7, 2017 in Niagara Hospice House after a brief illness. Born on April 13, 1927 in Canandaigua, she was the daughter of Joseph and Carmella Polimeni D'Agostino. A graduate of Canandaigua Academy, Mary worked in the Ontario County Department of Motor Vehicles from 1945 to 1958. In 1958, she and her husband Joe, began a 52 year career as proprietors of Joe's Locust Market. Mary delighted in taking care of generations of customers who became life-long friends. Faith, family, and friendships were her life's passions. Her warm disposition and care for others were her trademarks. Mary is the beloved wife of Giuseppe (Joseph) Caridi whom she married on October 5, 1957; loving mother of Joseph (Janelle) Caridi of North Tonawanda, Annette (Mark) Licata of Rochester, Anthony (Joan) Caridi of West Virginia; grandmother of Samuel and Olivia Caridi of North Tonawanda, Nicholas Licata of New York City, Christopher Licata of Rochester, Michael (Morgan) Caridi of North Carolina, Andrew and Matthew Caridi of West Virginia. Also surviving are a brother John (Barbara) D'Agostino of Henrietta; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Friday 3-7 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 12 PM from St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. A sincere thank you to the staff of Niagara Hospice House, Inc.
