Edgar G. Wright

Edgar George Wright of Lockport passed to spirit on Friday August 4th, 2017. Born in Lockport on June 6, 1925, he was the son of Edgar G. and Lillian Mae (Stewart) Wright. He is predeceased by his three sisters; Mary W. (James) Goodridge, Doris W. (Wallace) Soderholm and Geraldine (Geri) W. (Richard) Baer.

Mr. Wright is predeceased by his wife Ruth Helen Johnson of Quincy, MA. They were married in 1951 and enjoyed 49 loving years together. He is survived by his three children; Kurt E Wright of Ithaca, NY, Krista R Wright of Etna, Maine, and Karen H Wright of Tonawanda, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Luther W Ainsworth and Graidi K Ainsworth both of whom reside in Vermont. He is also survived by his loving companion of 15 years, Carol Bewley McIntosh of Lockport, and by several nieces, nephews and other family members.

In 1943 Ed graduated from Lockport High School. He then served in the USAAF from December 1943 to October 1945. He attended Edinboro College, Penn State University and General Motors Institute (GMI) in Flint, MI, from where he graduated in 1951. He was employed by Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors in Lockport for a total of 33 years. Following his retirement from Harrison he formed and managed his own engineering consulting firm, Realistic Engineering Practices.

Ed enjoyed an active life, remaining mentally sharp, physically active and devotedly civic-minded until his passing. At the age of 80 he discovered the joys of kayaking while vacationing in Vermont and the Adirondacks. Well into his 80's he still golfed regularly. He also continued to play (and win) at bridge and euchre weekly.

He was an active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church for over 45 years where he served as a trustee and a member of the finance, long range planning, and nominating committees. He also was a member of the Men's Club and served in Boy Scout leadership at the church.

Ed was active in several Masonic organizations where he recently received his 50 year membership award. He also served as Master of Red Jacket Lodge #646, Past Thrice Potent Master Scottish Rite Consistory, recipient of the Meritorious Service Award, President of Masters and Wardens – Niagara and Orleans, and Past President of the Lockport Shrine Club.

In 2013 at the age of 88, Ed was extremely honored to be awarded the Lockport Salvation Army "Others" award for his 21 years of outstanding community service and the demonstrated desire to put "Others" first. He served on many committees and as Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board for over 25 years. Ed's life was characterized by this sense of fairness, his faith, and his unfailing and selfless service to others.

Friends May Call on Friday August 11th from 3-7 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, where services will immediately follow at 7 PM, with a Masonic Service to follow.
